Yet another old friend

Blossom of a Madagascar flamboyant.

Wikipedia and other references say these trees bloom in April/May or thereabouts. But I distinctly remember that in Tanzania, they bloom in December. In fact references from East Africa say the tree is commonly called the "Christmas tree" for that reason.

So... either this blossom is out of season, or Wiki is incorrect. Possibly the flowering season is different in different parts of the world; apparently this tree is naturalized all over the tropics. (Including Hawai'i. But I can't remember what time of year they bloo there.)

We'll know soon.
